Bonfires act as checkpoints in the game world. While resting at a bonfire, you may fast-travel to any previously lit bonfire, attune spells, or access your storage box. The bonfire cannot be accessed when there are enemies nearby.
Resting at a bonfire has the following effects:
- Refills your HP, FP and Stamina
- Removes any Status Ailments
- Recharges your Estus Flask and Ashen Estus Flask uses
- Resets and respawns enemies (except unique enemies and bosses)
- Sets the bonfire as your respawn point upon death
The last lit or warped to bonfire will count as the last bonfire rested at for the purposes of a respawn point until overwritten.

- While lighting a bonfire, the player is invincible, including to the damage of Status Ailments or other forms of damage.
