Lore

The Spears of the Church watch over the Princess' slumber, and when the church is compromised by a trespasser, the Judicator summons them as loyal spirits to eliminate the threat.

When a mission visited the Ringed City long ago, one of its younger missionaries elected to stay behind. It was he who became the last recorded Spear of the Church.

General Information

Guardian of Filianore as she slumbers, the Spear of the Church may be summoned by the Judicator as either a hostile NPC or another player.

This fight is mandatory (TRC).

Moveset

Players summoned in place of Halflight will be incapable of using Estus, Siegbrau, or Divine Blessing, but may use the Ashen Estus Flask.

Halflight, Spear of the Church
Appears shortly after the first Painting Guardian, if not replaced by a player.

• Frayed Blade: Utilizes the full Frayed Blade moveset. See page for details.
• Hold: Uses the Weapon Art of the Frayed Blade to take a stance.
  • At a distance, follows up with a slam that sends out a shockwave.
  • If approaching the target, attacks with a series of slashes that can deflect projectiles.
  • May cancel it with a backstep or roll.
• Parry: Capable of parrying any parriable attack with the Knight Shield.
• White Birch Bow: At a distance, may pull out the White Birch Bow to fire a Standard Arrow.
  • Additionally capable of using Rolling or Running Attacks while firing an arrow.
• Spear Fragment: Uses a Spear Fragment to cause pillars of spears to erupt from the floor, granting an effect of Perseverance.
  • At a distance, finished by pulling out the White Birch Bow to fire a Standard Arrow.
• Spear Soulmass: Five Spear Soulmass spawn above his head in an arch every 18 seconds.
  • Additionally spawns for players replacing Halflight as Spear of the Church.

Painting Guardian
Summoned at the start of the fight by Judicator Argo, and another Painting Guardian spawns when Halflight or the Spear of the Church is below 65% HP. Interestingly, they do not scale with New Game Plus Cycle.

• Painting Guardian's Curved Sword: Utilizes the full Painting Guardian's Curved Sword moveset. See page for details.
• Chained Dance: Uses the Weapon Art of the Painting Guardian's Curved Sword, performing four consecutive spinning slashes.
• Church Guardian Shiv: Throws Church Guardian Shivs at the target.
• Gentle Prayer: Casts Gentle Prayer with the Cleric's Sacred Chime, restoring 6 HP per second for 60 seconds.
  • Unlike the player's, will not disappear if the Painting Guardian is two-handing their weapon.
• Soothing Sunlight: <60% HP, casts Soothing Sunlight, restoring 30% of their own HP.
  • May additionally cast it if Halflight or the Spear of the Church are <50% HP, restoring 21% of their HP.

Judicator Argo
Aggros only if extremely close, and will automatically die as the Spear of the Church is summoned.

Notes

• May be respawned by reinstating the King's decree at the Statue of Velka or the Purging Monument for souls equal to the player's level multiplied by 500.
• The Spears of the Church Covenant will automatically summon players into being a Spear of the Church, or rarely it may pull from Summon Signs or Invasions.
• Players summoned as a Phantom will scale to the amount of players in the host's world.

Bugs

• Painting Guardians may not aggro if the player is in certain sections of the room's corners.
• Halflight may get stuck on a pillar, allowing for an effective Poison strategy.
