Reinforcement

Each Weapon, Shield, and Catalyst has a reinforcement path, allowing you to upgrade its stats in exchange for certain Materials and Souls. To perform reinforcement, visit Blacksmith Andre in Firelink Shrine.

Regular

Regular reinforcement goes up to +10, and applies to most normal Weapons (i.g. Long Sword), Shields (i.g. Knight Shield), or Catalysts (i.g. Sorcerer's Staff).

This path uses the following Materials:

Unique

Unique reinforcement goes up to +5, and applies to Weapons (i.g. Black Knight Greataxe), Shields (i.g. Black Knight Shield), or Catalysts (i.g. Crystal Chime) with more unique elements, or which drop from special enemies.

This path uses the following Materials:

Boss

Boss reinforcement goes up to +5, and applies to Weapons (i.g. Yhorm's Great Machete) or Shields (i.g. Yhorm's Greatshield) that are transposed from Boss Souls, or in rare cases other gear (i.g. Sage's Crystal Staff).

This path uses the following Materials:

Upgrade Mechanics

Each upgrade increases the damage by a set percentage of the base damage, as well as the scaling.

Base Damage

For Regular Equipment, the damage can be calculated by:

So, when fully upgraded, Equipment deals twice the damage.

Scaling

Stat Scaling bonus gets multiplied by a scalar value dependent on reinforcement. For max upgrade, this scalar value is 1.4x.
