Stats

Stats (short for Statistics) is an umbrella term for all quantifiable data related to a Dark Souls III character.

Attributes

Primary Attributes

Primary attributes directly control most of the other character related stats. They can be increased by talking to the Fire Keeper in the Firelink Shrine and spending souls to level up. A character's level is the sum of its primary attributes minus 89 (e.g. a level one character, starting with the Deprived class, has a combined total of 90 points distributed over all primary attributes).

Endurance Endurance Icon Controls Stamina, Lightning defense, and Bleed resistance.
Vitality Vitality Icon Controls Equip Load, Physical defenses, and Poison resistance.
Strength Strength Icon Controls weapon damage and Fire defense.
Determines which weapons can be equipped.
Dexterity Dexterity Icon Controls weapon damage, cast speed, and falling damage.
Determines which weapons can be equipped.
Intelligence Intelligence Icon Controls spell damage and Magic defense.
Determines which weapons and spells can be equipped.
Faith Faith Icon Controls spell damage and Dark defense.
Determines which weapons and spells can be equipped.
Luck Luck Icon Controls Item Discovery and Bleed, Poison, and Curse resistances.

Secondary/Derived Attributes

Attribute Icon Description
Level Level Icon Value indicating the general strength of one's combined attributes.
Use souls to level up.
HP HP Icon One's mettle, or will to live.
Character dies when this reaches zero.
Use the Estus Flask, or rest at a bonfire to replenish.
FP FP Icon Required to use spells and Skills.
Use the Ashen Estus Flask, or rest at a bonfire to replenish.
Stamina Stamina Icon Required for various actions.
Depletes when actions are taken, but recovers automatically.
Equip Load Equip Load Icon Total weight of equipped weapons and armor.
Movement slows as load increases.
Exceed the rightmost number and movement slows dramatically.
Poise Poise Icon The ability to withstand attacks without breaking form.
Item Discovery Item Discovery Icon Governs likelihood of finding items on the corpses of defeated enemies.
Attunement Slots Attunement Slots Icon Number of attunement slots for spells.
Spells take the form of sorceries, pyromancies, and miracles.

Hollowing Hollowing Icon The degree to which this character is cursed.
The character will turn hollow if the curse grows too severe.

Life Ring +5.5/6.5/7.5/8.5% HP for the base, +1, +2, and +3 variants.

Notes

  • As of Patch 1.03, Defenses are determined by the character Level and the stated Attribute value, so a higher level character with a given Attribute value will have greater Defense than a lower level character with the same Attribute value. Similarly, Resistances are primarily determined by the character Level and secondarily by the stated Attributes but only when those Attributes are above 30. So, for example, Luck only increases Curse Resistance when Luck is greater than 30.
